Join Our Team: BIC Warden Trainee
The National Trust for the Cayman Islands is seeking applications for a Warden Trainee for the Blue Iguana Conservation Programme, a world leading, globally recognized reptile conservation project focusing on saving Cyclura lewisi, the Grand Cayman Blue Iguana, from extinction. This is an outdoor job based in the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park on Grand Cayman.
Requirements:
•Must have a strong interest in the natural environment, with the ability to work outdoors, including physically demanding work in harsh natural conditions
•Must be a self-motivated worker, who can perform well on a small team without constant supervision. Reliable work attendance and performance is essential to the health of the animals.
•Friendly outgoing personality and confidence to interact with visitors and volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
•A clean, valid driving license is necessary and applicants must have access to reliable transportation and a cell-phone.
•Only applicants that legally & permanently reside in the Cayman Islands will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:
•Practical maintenance skills, computer literacy, any experience in animal care and wildlife conservation work and outreach
•Knowledge of local plants & animals, traditions, and history of the Cayman Islands

•This is an entry level job with opportunity for advancement within the programme, the National Trust and potentially similar programs globally. Wardens work with local & visiting veterinarians and scientists potentially gaining valuable knowledge of local ecosystems and the natural world. This is a rewarding experience for those interested in working in an internationally recognized and acclaimed conservation programme.
Working Hours:
•The facility is open 7-days per week and wardens work 5 days per week including weekends on a rotational schedule and occasionally outside of standard hours. 40 hours per week is considered a standard work week.
Pay and benefits:
Starting salary is CI$13.75 per hour ($28,600 per year), paid monthly, 100% basic health insurance, pension contribution. Upon successful completion of probation, salary will increase to $14.69 per hour ($30,555 per year). Necessary training and uniform essentials will be provided.
