Discover Historic Gems in Central West Bay

Join us for an enlightening journey through time with the upcoming West Bay District Committee (WBDC) Walking Tour on Discovery Day, May 18, 2026, 4:30pm-6:00pm starting and ending at John Gray Memorial Church. This unique event offers a chance to explore Central West Bay’s rich history with a newly digitized version of the historic walking tour booklet, scanned by Alanna Warwick-Smith and digitally remade by Mike Hoffman.

“When I took the walking tour this past January, I realized how much care had gone into the original booklet. Arthurlyn’s writing, the great illustrations and all the memories the West Bay elders shared with the editorial committee. Putting it into a digital format was a small way to help that work keep reaching people. The tour itself puts names and stories back onto streets and buildings that would otherwise just blur past. The original guide notes that some of these streets retained their character “in spite of the pressures all around them,” and the walking tour lets you see what’s still here, what’s been replaced, and what’s worth recognizing as the district keeps growing.” Mike Hoffman, National Trust volunteer and member of WBDC.

As much of what existed 33 years ago has vanished, this booklet serves as an invaluable historical record, offering insights into the past that might otherwise be lost. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the heritage of West Bay and experience the stories that have shaped its vibrant community.  Email info@nationaltrust.org.ky to RSVP and reserve your spot for this upcoming Historic Walking Tour of West Bay.
