26 May 2026 – The National Trust for the Cayman Islands is thrilled to announce the success of our recent fundraiser, “Silver Thatch: A Tapestry of Nature and Heritage,” held recently on World Heritage Day, at the Cayman Collections Centre. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the guests, members, sponsors, and community who contributed to making this event a remarkable success.
The evening was a celebration of Caymanian culture and heritage, featuring activities that truly captured the spirit of our islands. Thanks to the generosity of our attendees and sponsors, we are proud to announce that the event raised over CI $60,000. These funds will significantly support our ongoing efforts to preserve the natural and built heritage of the Cayman Islands.
The fundraiser was a vibrant gathering filled with members from community with the shared commitment to preserving our natural and built heritage. The event featured live demonstrations of Silver Thatch plaiting and rope making, thanks to members of our community who generously shared their knowledge and expertise of this cherished tradition. These demonstrations highlighted the importance of preserving our beloved traditions and inspired many to learn more about this artform. Guests enjoyed prosecco, wine and local food through out the evening while having the opportunity to participate in an exciting raffle and auction, with a variety of prizes generously donated by local businesses. We extend our gratitude to those who donated and bid, contributing significantly to the success of this fundraising effort.
Once again, thank you to everyone involved—our guests, volunteers, and members. Special thanks to our sponsors: Platinum Sponsor: Dart, Silver Sponsor: Ministry of Youth, Sports & Heritage, Bronze Sponsor: Water Authority-Cayman, Sotheby’s, and CI Shipping Registry. Event sponsor providing decor, Celebrations Ltd. Together, we continue to protect what you love for everyone. Forever.
