A protected area in Little Cayman
This beautiful woodland features the historic Salt Rocks Nature Trail and Brigette Kassa Loop Trail. This historic right-of-way was the footpath from Blossom Village to Salt Rock Dock from the 1840s and features great views of the interior of Little Cayman. This is an excellent hike for endemic and migrant landbirds, reptiles including iguanas, butterflies and moths, and tropical plants including orchids and bromeliads. The trail highlights where phosphate-mining operations were conducted in the last century. At the northern end of the trail, see a walled enclosure built in the late 1800s used to corral mules that pulled phosphate-laden box cars on a narrow gauge railway to the Salt Rock Dock. The dock is where phosphate was once loaded onto schooners and is still the port where our supplies arrive today. The entrance/exit is at Salt Rocks / Spot Bay Road. Pack water and mosquito repellant and wear sturdy shoes.
